About the Venue:
For the last two years (2021 and 2022), ValleyArts and Entertainment has presented its annual women in jazz festival at this venue. It is in the Madison County's District 6, under the leadership of Commissioner, Violet Edwards, who became the first black woman in 2020 to serve on the county mission. The late, Madison County District 6 Commissioner Robert "Bob" Harrison had a vision for the "graying" the community of Northwest Huntsville - a senior wellness center that modeled the Patrick Henry Hays Senior Center in his hometown of North Little Rock, Arkansas. The center would be a place in which seniors in his district (some 20,000) at the time) could have ownership. It would also be a substantial economic investment in the Cedar Point community in north west Huntsville.
The Women's Jazz Festival
From a sold out house last year in 2022, we are back to celebrate our 10th anniversary with the community. The Alabama Women in Jazz Festival (previously named Huntsville Women in Jazz Festival), is presented under the direction of Executive Director and Founder, Patrice Bivins. The festival presents in the fall in September and is not a part of any other festivals. It is a women in jazz highlighting women musicians in jazz who are underrepresented in many aspects of the jazz arena.
